- Mechanical convection incubators — a fan circulates air for tighter uniformity and faster temperature recovery; useful for diagnostic assays with strict requirements.
- CO₂ incubators — maintain CO₂ and humidity for cell culture work, usually with some form of contamination control.
- Shaking incubators — combine temperature control with orbital agitation for microbial cultures in flasks and solubility studies.
- Refrigerated incubators — hold below-ambient temperatures for BOD tests, enzyme digestions, and other low-temperature protocols.
Which one do you need? It comes down to temperature range, uniformity, and whether the protocol requires CO₂ or agitation.
